(UNDATED) - The Notre Dame Fighting Irish produced the third best recruiting class in the nation on National Signing Day Wednesday, that according to rivals.com.
The Fighting Irish signed 18 players of the four and five-star caliber, including one of the nation's most coveted defenders.
Jaylon Smith of Fort Wayne Bishop Luers was ranked as the top prospect at outside linebacker by rivals and joins three other five-star recruits in signing with last year's runner-ups in the BCS Championship Game.
The Indiana Hoosiers signed five in-state prospects, including four from the Indianapolis area. Indiana successfully recruited a number of three and four star prospects in ranking 41st overall nationally.
Four-star Defensive back, Antonio Allen, de-committed to the University of Mississippi to sign with the Hoosiers and is one of several defensive players to could make an immediate impact on one of the worst defenses in the Big Ten Conference last season.
The Purdue Boilermakers had the 55th strongest recruiting class and signed the ninth highest rated pro-style quarterback in the nation by Rivals, Danny Etling of Terre Haute. Etling is the only four star player in Darrell Hazel's first recruiting class as head coach of the Boilermakers.
The Ball State Cardinals finished with the 100th best recruiting class in the nation and one of the strongest classes in the Mid-American Conference.
Calvin Bank of Terre Haute is a three star recruit for the Cardinals and is the twelfth most coveted prospect in Indiana.
