(Valparaiso, IN) - The Valparaiso Crusaders clinched a share of the Horizon League title with a 73-64 win over the Youngstown State Penguins at the ARC in Valparaiso.
The Crusaders trailed 40-33 at intermission but opened the second half with a 20 to 5 run.
Valpo led 53-45 with over nine minutes left in the game and eventually secured their twelfth conference win.
The Northern Indiana university was honoring its senior players at the ARC last night.
Ryan Broekhoff had 21 points and 10 rebounds and Kevin Van Wijk finished with 15 points and 14 rebounds for Valparaiso.
Both players, along with several others on the senior-laden Crusaders squad, were playing their final regular season contest at home.
The Crusaders have a one game lead over the Detroit Titans for first place on the league table and both teams finish their conference schedule on Saturday.
Youngstown State is 16-13 overall, 7-8 in the Horizon League, and finish the regular season at the Wright State Raiders Saturday.
Valparaiso is 23-7 overall, 12-3 on the league table, and play again Saturday at the Green Bay Phoenix.
