(undated) - Reports that Butler’s stay in the Atlantic 10 Conference will be a short one are coming up again.
ESPN reported on its website Thursday that Butler and Xavier will join a new Big East conference for the 2013-14 school year.
ESPN, citing unnamed sources, says the two current A-10 schools will join the Big East's seven departing Catholic schools in forming the new Big East in time for next season.
According to the report, the Catholic Seven would begin the new league on July first.
That timeline could speed up Notre Dame's departure from the current Big East to the ACC to this summer rather than 2014.
The report states that it would cost Butler and Xavier two-million dollars each to depart the A-10 with less than a year's notice.
This is Butler's first season in the A-10 after the Bulldogs left the Horizon League last summer.
