(Fontana, CA) - In NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series Sunday, Kyle Busch steered clear of a major wreck on the final lap of the Auto Club 400 to score an opportunistic win at the two-mile oval.
Busch won his first race of the season after sliding by a crash involving Denny Hamlin and Joey Logano.
The rivals were dueling side-by-side for the lead on the closing lap when a collision sent Hamlin into the inside wall.
He was airlifted to a local hospital and Logano held on to finish behind Dale Earnhardt Junior in third.
Carl Edwards came-in fourth and Kurt Busch was fifth.
Indiana drivers Ryan Newman and Jeff Gordon finished tenth and eleventh, and Tony Stewart, who instigated a shoving match with Logano after the race, came-in 22nd.
The Sprint Cup series will break until April 7th when racing resumes at Martinsville Speedway.
