(Washington D-C) - In the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, The Indiana Hoosiers can advance to the elite-eight for the first time since 2002 by eliminating the Syracuse Orange tonight in Washington DC.
Following years of rebuilding, the Hoosiers returned to the NCAA Tournament last season under head coach Tom Crean and were eliminated by the national champion Kentucky Wildcats in the regional semi-finals.
The Hoosiers, 29-6 overall, are the one-seed in the East region after winning the school's first outright Big-Ten Championship since 1993.
They advanced to the sweet-sixteen by beating the James Madison Dukes and Temple Owls in the opening rounds.
The Orange have enjoyed decades of stability under head coach Jim Boeheim and defeated the Kansas Jayhawks in 2003 to capture the school's first national title.
Syracuse, 28-9 overall, returns to the Verizon Center tonight as the East region's four-seed just weeks after losing to the Georgetown Hoyas in the Big East Championship game on the same floor.
The two schools met in the championship tournament finals in 1987, when Keith Smart made a 3-pointer in the closing seconds to help Indiana beat Syracuse 74-73 and capture the fifth national championship in Hoosier history.
Tipoff tonight is at 9:45.
