(Richmond, VA) - Sprint Cup drivers will qualify tonight for the Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond International Raceway.
Matt Kenseth and his Joe Gibbs Racing team were harshly penalized by NASCAR after his winning number 20 car failed a post race inspection at Kansas last weekend.
Kenseth was penalized 50 points and his crew chief, Jason Ratliff, was suspended for six races and fined two hundred thousand dollars.
Team owner Joe Gibbs had his owner's license suspended for six races and is prohibited from earning owner's points during that time.
The penalty drops Kenseth from 8th in the standings into a 14th place tie with Jeff Gordon.
Ratliff will continue to act as crew chief while the team appeals his suspension to NASCAR.
Jimmie Johnson leads the field in points and is followed by Kasey Kahne and Brad Keselowski.
Kyle Busch is the defending race champion at the three-quarter mile oval and has won the race four straight times.
The race is Saturday night at 7:30
