(Detroit, MI) - Panther Racing and JR Hildebrand have parted company on the eve of practice for this weekend’s races at Belle Isle Park.
A news release from Panther says the decision to terminate Hildebrand's contract was mutual.
Ryan Briscoe will drive the number-four National Guard car this weekend. Panther did not announce its plans for a driver for the rest of the IndyCar season.
Hildebrand's contract was scheduled to run through the end of the current season. He finished second in the 2011 Indianapolis 500, crashing in Turn Four while leading on the final lap with Dan Wheldon getting by to take the win.
He finished last in last weekend's 500, crashing out on Lap Four.
Briscoe finished twelfth in last Sunday's 500 in a one-off ride with Ganassi Racing.
