(INDIANAPOLIS) - Butler University Men’s Basketball Coach Brad Stevens is heading for Boston.
Butler announced Wednesday that Stevens has accepted the head coaching position for the Boston Celtics.
Butler President James Danko and Athletic Director Barry Collier said they were happy for Stevens and his new opportunity. Collier says they did everything they could to keep Stevens at Butler but they are supporting his decision.
Collier says the team learned about Stevens' departure earlier on Wednesday. He says while it was a sudden announcement, sometimes these types of situations happen quickly in today's world.
Stevens also talked to his players and the staff letting them know the the decision.
Danko says Stevens meant a lot not only to the basketball program but the university as a whole.
Collier says the search for a new head coach has already begun but there is no timetable for a decision.
