(Pittsburgh, PA) - In the National League, the Pittsburgh Pirates took control of the National League Central Division yesterday by sweeping the St. Louis Cardinals in a doubleheader at PNC Park.
The Pirates beat the Cardinals 6-0 last night and defeated St. Louis 2-1 in 11-innings in the early game.
In game one, Alex Presley ruined another strong outing by Cardinals' starter Lance Lynn when he singled in the game winning run in the 11th inning.
Lynn, who hails from Brownsburg, Indiana, struck out seven in six-innings pitched with one-earned run.
In game-two, Andrew McCutcheon broke the game open with a two-run homer in the fifth inning that gave the Pirates a 4-0 lead.
The Cardinals also learned that catcher Yadier Molina will likely go on the disabled list after leaving the second game with a sprained knee.
Molina was scheduled for an M-R-I in St. Louis with no timetable for his return.
The division leaders are playing five games in four days, with another matchup scheduled for 7:00 tonight.
