(St. Louis, MO) - In the National League, the St. Louis Cardinals beat the first place Atlanta Braves for the first time this season in a 6-2 victory at Busch Stadium last night.
Atlanta swept the Cardinals in a three-game series at Turner Field in late July and held St. Louis to three-runs during that stretch.
Matt Carpenter, Carlos Beltran, and Matt Holiday had a two-out, RBI double each in the fifth inning to put the Cardinals up 4-2.
Joe Kelley improved to 5-3 after limiting the Braves to two-runs on seven-hits, including a two-run homer by Justin Upton in the fifth.
The Cardinals are 74-53 and trail the Pirates by one-game for first place in the division.
They play the Braves tonight at 8:15.
