(Cincinnati, OH) - In Major League Baseball, Mat Latos pitched into the eighth inning and Jay Bruce homered for the 23rd time this season in leading the Cincinnati Reds past the Oakland A’s 3-1 at Great American Ballpark Tuesday.
Latos improved to 11-3 on the year after shutting out the A's in his seven and-a-third innings pitched .
Bruce gave the Reds a 1-0 lead with a homer in the second inning and Shin-Soo Choo had a pair of hits and scored twice for the Reds.
The Reds are 62-51 and trail the Cardinals by four and-a-half games for second place in the division.
They wrap up their two game interleague set against Oakland at 12:35 this afternoon.
