(Chicago, IL) In the National League, Mat Latos pitched another gem and and Brandon Phillips hit a game deciding two-run homer during the Cincinnati Reds 2-to-nothing win over the Chicago Cubs Monday.
Phillips drove a 1-and-2 pitch over the left field wall at Wrigley in sending the Reds to their fifth win in six games.
Latos improved to 12-and-3 on the year, 4-and-oh since the All-Star break, after scattering six-hits over eight shutout innings.
Cubs' starter Travis Wood also lasted eight innings but fell to 7-and-9 because of the mistake to Phillips.
The Cubs are 52-and-66 and host the Reds tonight at 8:05. Cincinnati is 66-and-52 and gained a half game on idle Pittsburgh and St. Louis in the NL Central division with the win.
