(Cincinnati, OH) - The Cincinnati Reds couldn’t figure out Daisuke Matsuzaka in a critical 1-0 loss to the New York Mets Wednesday.
Matsuzaka was extremely sharp, scattering 4 hits and striking out 6 in 7 2/3 innings, on the way to his third win in six decisions.
LaTroy Hawkins picked up his 13th save of the season.
Mat Latos was a hard-luck loser for the Reds.
The righty allowed four hits and one earned run in 7 innings.
The Reds fell four games behind the first place Cardinals in the N.L. Central and were eliminated from the divisional race.
Cincinnati has clinched a Wild Card berth in the playoffs.
