(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana University is launching an extensive renovation of Assembly Hall.
The project was given a massive boost thanks to a 40-Million dollar gift from Cindy Simon Skjodt, the daughter of the late shopping mall magnate and Pacers owner Mel Simon.
The new hall will be renamed "Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall".
IU President Michael McRobbie hopes to have the renovations complete by 2016.
Athletic Director Fred Glass also announced a $150-Million "Catching Excellence" fund-raising campaign for campaign for capital improvements, and the Assembly Hall renovation is part of the campaign.
Simon Skjodt says "this is a dream come true". Skjodt is an IU graduate, and spoke of having fond memories of watching basketball games in the arena with her late father.
