(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indianapolis Motor Speedway unveiled this year’s 500 Festival cars Wednesday afternoon.
This year, the Festival car is a Chevrolet Camaro S-S, similar to the Pace Car for the 98th running of the Indianapolis 500, the Camaro Z/28.
The cars will be driven by the 33 directors of the 500 Festival and other dignitaries from the community.
IMS President Doug Boles says a lot of these cars end up in parades around the state and appear at schools and other community events. He encourages people who see these cars to ask the drivers about them.
Boles says the purpose for the cars it not only to promote the Indy 500 but also to promote Chevrolet, which has had a long-standing relationship with IMS. He says the Speedway has had a connection with Chevy going back to when the track opened in 1909.
