(UNDATED) - The following is a wrapup of regional baseball matchups from Sunday.

The Cincinnati Reds looked to avoid a series sweep from the Tampa Bay Rays yesterday. The offense exploded for the Reds, scoring 2 in the 2nd, 5 in the 3rd, 1 in the 5th and 4 in the 8th for a season high 12 runs scored, in route to a 12-4 victory of the Rays.

Devin Mesoraco had a strong day batting, going 2 for 3 with a walk and a huge 2 out 3 run home run in the 3rd. He finished with 4 RBI's and 1 run scored.

Chris Heisey was also a big contributor, coming off the bench for a pinch hit Grand-Slam in the 8th inning, to seal the deal for the Reds.

On the mound, it was Tony Cingrani getting his first win of the season, pitching 6.1 innings giving up 2 runs on 5 hits, while striking out 6. He also extended his big league record to 21 starts to begin his career, without giving up more than 5 hits.

The Reds, 2012 central division champs, have started the season off slow, going just 4-8 over their first 12 games, but look to get back on track with this win, as the bats came back to life.

After an hour and 15 minute rain delay, the Cleveland Indians and Chicago White Sox got going yesterday, dueling back and forth in a tight pitching battle the clubs entered the 9th with the White Sox holding on to a 2-1 lead.

After the first 2 batters reached base, David Murphy singled to tie it up at 2 runs a piece. Mike Aviles hit a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners to 2nd and 3rd for the Indians, and then on a wild pitch from Matt Lindstrom Cleveland reclaimed the lead. It proved to be short lived though, as Alexei Ramirez hit a walk off 2 run home run for a 4-3 victory, after Jordan Danks got on base by a walk.

The Whitesox won the series going 3 out of 4, climbing above .500 to improve to 7 and 6 on the season.

The Chicago Cubs fell to the St. Louis Cardinals yesterday 6-4 and drop to 4-8 in this young season. It was their 2nd loss to the Cardinals, losing the series 2 games to 1.

Anthony Rizzo hit a 2 run homer in the first to give the Cubs the lead, but St. Louis answered in the second with 3 runs of their own.

The Cardinals success was due in large part to rookie starting pitcher Michael Wacha, who improved to 2-0 on the season with the win, pitching 6 and 1/3 innings giving up just 3 runs, and striking out 8.

Offensively it was Matt Carpernter who did most of the work for the Cardinals, going just 1 for 4, but driving in 3 runs, including scoring a run himself.

For the Cardinals, they improve to 7-5 on the season as they head into a tough series with the league leading Milwaukee Brewers.
