(UNDATED) - The following is a wrapup of regional baseball matchups from Thursday.
(Chicago, IL) - Pedro Alvarez' three-run home run in the top of the seventh capped a big Pittsburgh rally as the Pirates came from behind to defeat the Chicago Cubs 5-4.
The Cubs jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third when Emilio Bonafacio stole second and scored on Pirates catcher Tony Sanchez' throwing error. Chicago added three runs in the fourth with Starlin Castro and Welington Castillo hitting RBI singles.
Cubs starter Travis Wood threw six shutout innings, but was removed after Neal Walker doubled to lead off the seventh. Travis Snider followed with a two-run home run. A single and a walk set the table for Alverez, who hammered a James Russell pitch over the center field wall to complete the comeback.
Pittsburgh took two of three in the series.
(Chicago, IL) - Rookie Jose Abreu homered twice for the second time in three games as the Chicago White Sox powered past the Cleveland Indians 7-3.
Abreu hit solo shots off Cleveland starter Danny Salazar and reliever Josh Outman, adding an RBI fielder's choice to finish with three runs batted in. Alexei Ramirez also hit a solo shot off Salazar and added a two-run double to also drive in three.
John Danks allowed three runs over six innings to pick up his first win of the season.
Asdrubal Cabrera hit a solo homer for the Indians.
