Minnesota To Host 2018 Super Bowl

Last updated on Tuesday, May 20, 2014

(ATLANTA, GA) - Indianapolis will not play host to Super Bowl 52 in 2018.

At Tuesday's meeting in Atlanta, the NFL owners announced that Super Bowl 52 will be held in Minneapolis, Minnesota in the city's new billion-dollar stadium.

David Lewis, Vice President of the Indianapolis Super Bowl Bid Committee says everyone on the committee was profoundly disappointed in the announcement.

Lewis says he believes the city put an extraordinary bid forward and everyone worked incredibly hard to bring the Super Bowl back to Indianapolis. He says the committee doesn't have any second thoughts about its own bid but he believes Minnesota's new stadium secured the decision, much like it did for Indianapolis when it won the bid to host Super Bowl 46 in 2012.

Former Colts center Jeff Saturday was in Atlanta as part of the Indianapolis delegation and also expressed his disappointment. He and Lewis both thanked the community and everyone who worked so hard on the bid.

Lewis says the committee will reflect upon the experience and make a decision on the future at a later date.
