(SPARTA) - The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series heads down to Sparta, Kentucky Saturday night for the Quaker State 400.
Right now the pride of Pittsboro, Jeff Gordon continues to lead the Sprint Cup standings. Gordon has only won one race this year, but the Hendrick Motorsports driver is having an extremely consistant season with 6 top 5 finishes and 12 top 10's in the 16 races this year.
Gordon says his team is a threat to win the title.
"It's certainly the most consistent, greatest cars that I've had going week in and week out," he said. "To have cars that are capable of either winning or running up front, I'm very confident in what I'm getting behind the wheel of every weekend. The cars are just really, really good, and that's making a lot of fun for me."
Right now Gordon is in the best position of the Indiana natives in the standings. Ryan Newman has rallied to 8th overall, with Tony Stewart still sitting back in 17th position. Smoke lost one spot in the standings last weekend while Newman gained three.
