(CHARLOTTE) - Joe Gibbs racing and driver Denny Hamlin have been hit with stiff penalties from a rules violation found after Sunday’s Brickyard 400.
Hamlin lost 75 points in the driver's standings, crew chief Darian Grubb was suspended for 6 races and fined $125,000 for the violation for "unsealed rear firewall blockoff plates".
Hamlin finished 3rd in Sunday's 400, he drops from 11th to 21st in the NASCAR standings, but due to NASCAR's new rules, since he won at Talladega earlier this year he's likely still in the Chase for the Championship.
