(Indianapolis, IN) - NCAA President Mark Emmert spoke at the Final Four press conference on Thursday and said the RFRA could cost the city future events and maybe the national offices if a significant fix isn’t made.
"The NCAA would find it very difficult to operate in Indiana unless the religious freedom law is changed."
He continued saying, "If I believed we couldn't conduct our affairs in any place in a fashion that didn't prohibit discrimination against people for any number of reasons, then I would surely recommend that we move."
After Governor Mike Pence announced plans to sign a fix to the law Emmert said. "I'm very pleased with what we hear they're working on. We haven't seen a final version of the amended bill so we'll have to wait until that occurs but the bill as they're amending it could satisfy our concerns, but again, we haven't seen it."
Asked if whether or not the fixed bill would affect next year's women's Final Four in Indianapolis, Emmert responded, "Right now it's in Indianapolis and we're going to have to wait and see with what the legislature does before we can respond to that."
