(Indianapolis, IN) - Scott Dixon won the pole for the Indy 500 with a speed off 226.760 MPH.
Will Power, Simon Pagenaud, Tony Kannan and Helio Castroneves rounded out the top five.
In the final practice session Will Power hit 227.377 MPH with Jack Hawksworth right behind him. Simon Pagenaud, James Jakes and Helio Castroneves were the top five finishers.
There was another scary moment at the Speedway as Ed Carpenter became the third driver to have an accident when his chassis rolled over after wall contact. Carpenter got loose on turn two before slamming into the wall, causing his vehicle to tip and roll over.
Carpenter was checked and cleared by the medical staff. INDYCAR officials made last-minute changes to Sunday's qualifying by ordering lower turbocharger boost levels, teams also were told to use the same aerodynamic trim used in qualifying in the 500.
Due to the changes no championship points were awarded and the Fast Nine Shootout was scrapped.
