(Indianapolis, IN) - The Colts thinned out their backfield as they waived Vick Ballard on Tuesday.
Ballard didn't play in Sunday's opener against the Bills due to a hamstring injury and should he clear waivers he'll revert to the injured reserve.
The Colts already severed ties with Boom Herron earlier this month and now have rookies Josh Robinson and Tyler Varga backing up Frank Gore.
The Colts gave former Bengals defensive tackle Devon Still a tryout on Tuesday. The loss of Art Jones has left the Colts thin at defensive line depth. Still became a household name last season with his daughter Leah battling Neuroblastoma.
As the team preps for the Monday night showdown with the New York Jets, Chuck Pagano said every NFL team deals with some sort of adversity during the season.
"There's going to be ebbs and flows in a game and in a season. Adversity is going to come. And I'm glad it happened in week one but now it's up to us to learn from it and grow."
