(Indianapolis, IN) - Chuck Pagano says he’s done discussing the botched fake punt play but punter Pat McAfee offered an in-depth explanation of what went wrong.
"The gunner who became the center all week was Clayton Geathers. Clayton Geathers gets injured in the second quarter, insert Griff Whalen who had never done it before. So Griff is now the new center in a play he's never practiced before. We added something to the play in practice that Griff never saw because he was fielding punts at the time. He didn't know there was an audible that was added. He was under the impression that if he felt the quarterback's hands behind him he was supposed to snap the ball. It was 100-percent a miscommunication."
As the Colts begin preparation for the New Orleans Saints, the team made some roster moves on Tuesday.
The Colts signed cornerback Tony Carter and quarterback Matt Blanchard. Carter spent the last four seasons with the Broncos, while Blanchard was on the Browns' practice squad earlier this season.
With the additions, the team waived linebacker Amarlo Herrera and cornerback Shaun Prater.
