(Maui, Hawaii) - The Indiana Hoosiers lost to Wake Forest 82-to-78 in their first game in the Maui Invitational on Monday.
The loss is the first of the early season for coach Tom Crean's team.
Trailing 50-to-45 at the half, the Hoosiers rallied a comeback and led 75-to-67 with 4:50 remaining in the game after Troy Williams scored on two straight possessions. Wake Forest responded with a 9-to-2 run over their own to take a 78-to-77 advantage with just 24 seconds remaining. Williams went to the free throw line with a chance to tie the game but only made one of the two attempts.
"We played well for 16 minutes in the second half," coach Tom Crean said after the game. "You can't beat anybody with 16 good minutes... I'm disappointed we didn't play the way we should have."
Troy Williams was the top-scorer for Indiana finishing with 16 points.
The Hoosiers will face St. John's in the consolation round today.
