(Piscataway, NJ) - Max Bielfeldt came off the bench and delivered an 18 point 14 rebound performance to guide the Hoosiers past Rutgers 79-72.
Yogi Ferrell added 18 points and 7 assists for Indiana, who moved to 11-3 and got their first conference victory of the season.
IU hit near 48 percent from the field and out-rebounded the Scarlet Knights 43-29.
The Hoosiers still have plenty of clean up to do when it comes to taking care of the ball as they turned the ball over 23 times.
Tom Crean said it was a good win for the team but one they were lucky to get.
"I think we'll look back on this game and know that we were happy and fortunate to get it."
Indiana gets to enjoy the New Year's festivities before returning to Big Ten conference play with a visit to Nebraska on Saturday.
