(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - During IndyCar Media Day, CEO Mark Miles announced new safety measures that will be in place for the upcoming season.
The new precautions include flaps, tethers and dome skids to help eliminate vehicles going airborne and improve driver safety.
The flaps were tested in a 230 mph wind tunnel to help keep cars grounded while the dome skids are meant to provide stability.
The additional tethers will be used on rear-beam wing and rear-wheel guards to prevent pieces flying off, like the debris that killed Justin Wilson last season.
