(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - Colts owner Jim Irsay continues to sound optimistic that a contract extension with Andrew Luck will get done this off-season.
Irsay said not only was there a good chance they sign Luck to a long-term deal but it would likely be in the nine-figure range.
"Whether it's going to be the highest and all those sorts of things, we'll see how it goes. I see Andrew here for a really long time and this won't be his last contract. With him at 26 years old, it's going to be ringing the bell in terms of nine figures and that sort of thing."
Irsay said he hopes to begin significant negotiations later this month or in March.
Irsay continued, saying, "To me it's not a matter of what the number's going to be, but making sure we have room to surround Andrew with a championship football team and that it's cap-friendly as it can be as we go through the end of this decade and past there. The structure's important."
Irsay also noted that he wants to have Peyton Manning retire as a member of the Colts and has told Peyton as much.
