(DENVER, CO) - Peyton Manning will announce his retirement on Monday, according to multiple reports.
The five-time league MVP will hold a press conference at 1 p.m. EST Monday to discuss his decision to step away after 18 seasons and a pair of Super Bowl victories.
Manning reportedly called the Denver Broncos on Saturday to inform them of his decision. His decision will free up $19 million in cap room for the Broncos.
"Peyton Manning's extraordinary career was driven by his talent, an incredible work ethic, and an unwavering desire to be the best and ended so perfectly for him with a Super Bowl victory," NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement.
Manning spent the first 14 seasons of his career with the Colts before spinal fusion surgery caused him to miss the entire 2011 season. He went on to sign with the Denver Broncos as a free agent in 2012, making two trips to the Super Bowl in his final three seasons.
The 39-year old was a Super Bowl MVP, 14-time Pro Bowl selection, seven-time first-team All-Pro and made postseason appearances in 15 of his 18 seasons.
