(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - Pat McAfee’s decision to walk away from football at the age of 29 was one he didn’t take lightly.
He leaves the $2.75 million salary he would have received in 2017 and could potentially owe the Colts $400,000 in previously-paid bonus money should the team actually ask to collect on it.
Bob Kravtiz reports McAfee's decision to retire isn't so hard to believe as the punter said he "seriously considered retiring a year ago" but decided to return.
"It was a difficult decision--very," McAfee said. "But whenever you're a creative person, whenever you can make somebody laugh, that's real fulfillment. It was a really tough choice but I'm really, really excited about the future."
McAfee announced he'll be joining Barstool Sports, an up-and-coming sports website that targets young males.
