NBA: Spurs' Game-Winner Over Pacers Shouldn't Have Counted

Last updated on Friday, March 3, 2017

(SAN ANTONIO, TX) - Nate McMillan said after Thursday’s 100-99 loss to the San Antonio Spurs that he thought Kwahi Leonard’s game-winning shot with 2.4 seconds left shouldn’t have counted because he believed he traveled.

Apparently the NBA agrees.

In their last-two minute report the league acknowledged the officiating crew allowed what should have been called a travel on Leonard and replays showed clear evidence that the Spurs' forward had switched his pivot foot before attempting his shot. Had the call been made Indiana would have regained possession with 4.8 seconds left and led 99-98.

"He traveled," Paul George said after the game. "I made him work for it and he picked his dribble up. Then out of nowhere he had extra space."
