Hoosiers Hold Off Howard At Assembly Hall

Last updated on Monday, November 13, 2017

(BLOOMINGTON, IN) - It wasn’t always pretty but a win is a win as the Indiana Hoosiers held off a tough Howard squad 86-77 to get their first win of the season.

After an embarrassing blowout to Indiana State, the Hoosiers could not risk falling to 0-2 on their home court.

De'Ron Davis led IU with 17 points while Justin Smith and Aljami Durham each scored 16 points off the bench with Smith adding 12 rebounds.

"There were a lot of unselfish plays," Hoosiers coach Archie Miller said after the game. "The game resembled what we want to be about."

One thing that has to change is the team's free-throw shooting as they hit just 12-of-29 attempts.

Howard was led by RJ Cole, who had a game-high 27 points and went 5-of-8 from 3-point range.

The Hoosiers get back to work on Wednesday when they visit Seton Hall for their first road game of the season.
