Indianapolis To Host College Playoff In 2022

Last updated on Thursday, November 2, 2017

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - It was announced on Wednesday by Indianapolis mayor Joe Hogsett that the city of Indianapolis and Lucas Oil Stadium will host the 2022 College Football Playoff national championship game.

It will be the first time in modern history of college football that the national title game will be played somewhere outside of the South and West.

"When we were talking about sites, we kept asking ourselves, "Why not a northern-tier city," Playoff executive director Bill Hancock said. "Why does college football always have to have its championship in the Sun Belt? We're pleased with our decision to go north."

Lucas Oil Stadium has hosted national events in the past: the Super Bowl in 2012 and men's basketball Final Four in 2010 and 2015.
