(WEST LAFAYETTE, IN) - The No. 21 Purdue Boilermakers easily handed Valparaiso their first loss of the season as they routed the Crusaders 80-50 on Thursday.
The Boilermakers jumped out to a 36-16 lead by halftime and coasted after that. Vince Edwards had a team-high 15 points and nine rebounds while Casen Edwards added 14 points.
"We had a lot of respect for Valparaiso -they were undefeated," Edwards said. "With all the upsets going around college basketball, we didn't want to be a part of that."
Purdue forced 18 Valparaiso turnovers and suffocated the Crusaders' offense.
Joe Burton led Valpo with a game-high 19 points but Tevonn Walker, who averages over 17 points per game was held to just 10 in this contest.
Purdue improved to 9-2 and next take on IUPUI on Monday while Valparaiso attempts to rebound from their first loss of the season with a meeting with Ball State on Sunday.
