(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - Colts owner Jim Irsay and General Manager Chris Ballard discussed the firing of head coach Chuck Pagano and what they will look for in the team’s coaching search during their joint press conference on Monday.
"We made the decision after Sunday's game," Irsay said on the decision to fire Pagano.
When it comes to the head coaching search, Irsay assured everyone that it was Ballard's call.
"It's going to be a wide-open search," Ballard said. "Is resume important? Yes. But I think there are many instances in history that coaches were hired from places where they didn't....We're going to get the right fit for the Indianapolis Colts. We have a great organization, we have a lot to sell and this is going to be a great place, we're going to do a lot of great things moving forward."
Ballard added that they will dip into the collegiate ranks for candidates.
While neither Irsay or Ballard mentioned any potential candidates by name multiple reports mentioned the team had already been granted permission to interview Houston Texans defensive coordinator Mike Vrabel, Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Kris Richard and were expected to interview Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels as well as Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Jim Nagy and Chiefs special teams coach Dave Toub, whom Ballard worked with previously in both Kansas City and Chicago.
