(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The NFL Draft is officially in the rear-view mirror and the Colts say their draft picks show their confidence that Andrew Luck will be returning completely healthy.
"100 percent," owner Jim Irsay said. "He's our guy. We are 100 percent confident he is going to come back and lead this football team with some of his new teammates he's accumulated to great things."
The Colts continued their internal rebuild after picking four times in the second round last night in the NFL draft.
With the fourth pick, the Colts selected Darius Leonard, a linebacker out of South Carolina St. A pick later, they selected an offensive lineman out of Auburn, Braden Smith.
The Colts traded down from 17 to 20 in the second to pick defensive end Kemoko Turay while acquiring a fifth round pick.
General Manager Chris Ballard wasn't done in the second though, trading back into the round to select Tyquan Lewis, a defensive end out of Ohio State. So that is now 2 offensive lineman, two defensive lineman and a linebacker so far in the draft.
In other news, Ballard said he received calls from other teams about Luck in possible trade scenarios.
"We received some calls around last season's trade deadline. And I just--c'mon man. I'm not taking those seriously. We're not trading Andrew Luck. I'm not putting that on my resume."
Irsay added the lack of addressing the quarterback position in any sense should be all you need to know about their confidence.
"If we had any doubts, we would have at least talked about the quarterback position from a backup standpoint and all those sorts of things. But we really don't have any doubts."
