(MONTGOMERY) - Barr Reeve Basketball coach and teacher Bryan Hughes has announced his retirement.
In a statement released by Barr Reeve Superintendent Travis Madison, Madison says Hughes informed the school board he wishes to retire from teaching and coaching effective July 1st.
Madison stated the school system appreciates Hughes and wishes him well in his retirement.
Hughes says Barr Reeve is a special place and he needs time to work on personal issues.
The Barr Reeve Vikings have gone to the state finals five times under Hughes. The basketball team won the 2015 State Class-A tourney and went to semi-state in March. He was 477-157 at Barr Reeve in 27 years. In the last four years he led the state in winning percentage among active coaches.
