(WEST LAFAYETTE, IN) - The Purdue Boilermakers found themselves in a hole that they couldn’t climb out of as they dropped their season-opener to the Northwestern Wildcats 31-27.
Northwestern's offense was put on the shoulders of running back Jeremy Larkin, who rushed for a career-high 143 yards and scored two touchdowns.
Purdue yanked starting quarterback Elijah Sindelar after a disastrous first half as he threw three interceptions that each led to a Wildcats touchdown.
"We can take a sack, it's not a complete killer but we just threw it to the other team too many times and that's disappointing," Purdue head coach Jeff Brohm said.
David Blough would replace him and go 12-for-16 for 74 yards.
Boilermakers' rookie wide receiver Rondale Moore had a huge debut as hauled in 11 catches for 109 yards and a score and also rushed twice for 79 yards including a 76-yard dash.
Purdue will look for their first win of the season when they host Eastern Michigan on September 8.
