(MARTINSVILLE) - Morgan County Prosecutor Steve Sonnega says a 30-year-old Ellettsville man has been charged in the May 2000 death of Indiana University student Jill Behrman.
At a press conference in Martinsville Monday, Sonnega said John Robert Myers, II, was arrested without incident at his home Sunday night, following a grand jury investigation. Myers faces one count of murder in connection with Behrman's death, and remains in custody in the Morgan County Jail without bond.
In addition, Sonnega said, his office is charging Bloomington resident Alisha T. Evans with two counts of perjury. Sonnega says the charges followed four weeks of testimony before the grand jury, during which time some 90 witnesses provided testimony.
Sonnega said he was not able to provide much additional information about the circumstances of the crime, as those details are part of the grand jury record and can't be made public.
Jill Behrman was a 19-year-old college student when she went missing while on a bike ride in May of 2000.
Her parents, Eric and Marilyn Behrman, were on hand for yesterday's announcement, and offered their thanks to investigators and prosecutors, and for all who help to advance the prosecution of the case.
