(PLAINFIELD) - Governor Mitch Daniels has announced a new plan for a statewide hiking and biking trail system.
Standing at the side of the Vandalia Trail near the Plainfield Recreation Center, Daniels and Department of Natural Resources Director Kyle Hupfer made the announcement.
There are more than 3,000 miles of trails in Indiana and the goal of this project is to interconnect all of those trails and make Hoosiers more aware that they exist.
Not only that, Governor Daniels says this is part of the "In-Shape Indiana" effort, which is encouraging healthier habits for all Hoosiers. Hupfer says there will be a summit on the state's trail system at the end of May.
The money for this project is coming from the "Major Moves" lease dollars, along with federal, state, and private grants.
