(STATEHOUSE) - Three days after State Police honored troopers killed in the line of duty, Indiana’s prisons have held their own Statehouse memorial for their fallen staffers.
It's the first time the Department of Correction has held a memorial.
Commissioner David Donahue says staffers had to go back through the archives to find the names of 12 guards or other employees killed by inmates.
This year's legislature voted to give free tuition to state universities for the children of any prison officers killed in the line of duty, and extend a $150.000 death benefit for police widows to prison families as well.
