(UNDATED) - Today’s the deadline for being signed up for Medicare’s prescription drug program called “Part D”.
Nelle Worthington, an education consultant for Indiana's Senior Health Insurance information program, says it's not a requirement, but it's like an insurance policy for prescription drugs.
Worthington says there has been a push to sign up as the deadline approaches. She suggests you call 1-800-MEDICARE and have a list of your prescriptions ready if you haven't yet. The Medicare hotline will be open until midnight.
Worthington says some retirees with private plans, career military and others through the V.A. won't need to sign up. She says many Hoosiers who have "Part D" have already seen their prescription costs go down.
