(LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY) - A Bloomington native will receive a Bronze Star he earned for his bravery during the Vietnam War.
Michael Mitchell suffered a head wound, but did allow the other troops in his platoon to escape during an attack by North Vietnamese troops. Mitchell was himself evacuated and spent a month recovering from the shrapnel wound, which left him with a fuzzy memory.
Some of Mitchell's fellow troops thought he was dead until he got in contact with them a few years ago. Mitchell will go to Louisville today to receive his award.
