(UNDATED) - A State Senator became the first applicant for a lifetime permit to carry a handgun, making him the first person in the state and the nation to do so.
A law that took effect this month makes Indiana the first state to allow the lifelong permits for law-abiding handgun owners, and State Senator and bill sponsor Johnny Nugent will be the first permit recipient.
The new law also increases fees for renewing and obtaining certain four-year licenses.
