Police have released a public account of how they came to suspect that 17-year-old Zachariah Blanton was the interstate sniper.
Blanton is accused of shooting off an overpass last Sunday, killing one man and injuring another. Jackson County prosecutor Steven Pierson says Blanton had argued with relatives and drove off in anger before the attacks.
A 44-year-old man who says he was Blanton's hunting partner on a trip this past weekend called police after he heard about the shootings.
Officials from Wes-Del High School, where Blanton was to be a senior, say they are shocked to learn that one of their students had been charged with the shootings. High school personnel have no immediate plans to address the situation since school is out for summer break. However, they say counselors will be available when school starts next month.
