(CARMEL) - A Carmel couple may have had a close encounter with objects from outer space.
That's why scientist Nelson Shaffer recently went to their home to investigate two tennis ball-sized holes in their roof.
Although the Indiana Geological Survey employee did not find any space rocks, he says other evidence indicates a meteorite strike. Neighbors reported hearing a sonic boom and smoke trail.
Shaffer will return to Carmel this week to comb through debris collected by the fire department. He will also take another look at portions of the roof once renovators remove part of a wall.
