(UNDATED) - Environmentalists and industry leaders are touting a new diesel fuel that will be available at all Indiana gas stations this Sunday.
Federal law requires that the new fuel have 97% less sulfur than today's diesel.
Diesel technology forum spokesman Eron Shosteck says the new blend is the most significant environmental milestone since removing lead from gas in the 1970s. Industry leaders claim diesel vehicles are up to 40% more efficient than automobiles with gas engines.
As a result, automakers plan to bring diesel cars to showroom floors in 2007 for consumers looking to lessen pain at the pump.
