(INDIANAPOLIS) - A new Do-Not-Fax law will take effect on Monday, January 1st.
Attorney General Steve Carter says this law is different from the Do-Not-Call law, in that people do not need to register their fax numbers. Carter says businesses are often "blast faxed" by everything from mortgage lenders to scam artists offering cheap vacations, which in turn costs money and lost productivity.
Carter says consumers can contact his office and provide a complaint form and one copy of the fax in question. Carter says while this law mirrors the federal Do-Not-Fax list, it gives the state more legal recourse to go after violators.
