(UNDATED) - Indiana State Police are encouraging those who will be celebrating the New Year to be responsible.
Last year, during the New Year's holiday period, seven people were killed on Indiana roadways. Two of those were alcohol related.
Indiana State Police will be adding extra patrols on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. Operation CARE, Combined Accident Reduction Effort, and the State Wide Driving Under the Influence Enforcement Project will allow troopers to concentrate on intoxicated drivers.
They offer a few tips. If hosting a party, always have food available and non-alcohol beverages. Stop serving alcohol 90 minutes before the party ends. If traveling, don't drink and drive, never ride with someone who has been drinking, and call a cab. And buckle up when in the vehicle.
