(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indiana National Guard confirms that as many as 3,500 troops in the guard’s 76th Infantry Brigade may be headed to Iraq in the first half of 2008.
The group had been told they would stay home until at least 2010.
Many members have already served in Iraq or Afghanistan.
If the entire brigade is sent to the war-torn country, it would mark the largest Indiana National Guard deployment since World War II.
In deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, units from the 76th Brigade have lost nine soldiers.
